WHAT IS LIFELINE SERVICES?
Established in 1989, LifeLine Services is a branch of the
Stillwater Medical Center Auxiliary and is operated in conjunction with Stillwater Medical
Center.
We provide a Personal Emergency Response System for the
elderly, handicapped, recovering patients, and those living alone. The service is
primarily staffed by volunteers from the Auxiliary who installmaintain and service
the electronic communicators placed in the subscribers home. Stillwater Medical
Center assists us by paying part of the Coordinators salary and providing office
space with telephone facilities for our use. Through this cooperative effort, we are able
to offer citizens of Stillwater and the surrounding area this service at one of the lowest
costs in the state. There are approximately 190 subscribers being served in Stillwater, 14
other communities and rural areas within North Central Oklahoma.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
LifeLine Services provides an electronic unit which is installed on the telephone line in
a subscribers residence. Each subscriber wears, either as a necklace or as a
wristband, a Personal Help Button at all times in their home, and if they
should require assistance, they press their Person Help Button. Pressing
the button activates the home communicator (electronic unit) which automatically transmits
a signal to our monitoring service which is manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by
highly trained operators. The operator speaks to the subscriber through their home
communicator to determine the problem and sends assistance if needed. If it is not an
emergency, the operator will contact one of the subscribers "responders"
(a neighbor, friend or relative living within 10 or 15 minutes of the subscriber's home
who has agreed to help the subscriber when called).
If an emergency exists and ambulance, police, or fire
services are required, the operator will call emergency teams immediately. When
necessary, the operators have the capability of translating several different languages.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF LIFELINE?
LifeLine is an ideal, inexpensive solution for the elderly,
handicapped, recovering patient, single persons and those who wish to remain independent
while living in their own home. LifeLine subscribers have peace of mind and assurance that
should an emergency occur, help is readily available. In addition, family members of
LifeLine subscribers also share the security of knowing that their loved ones will
instantly receive assistance in their absence.
WHAT DOES LIFELINE COST?
The cost for LifeLine Service depends upon the type of home
communicator selected. Our "standard" home communicator is only
$30.00 per month, with a one-time installation fee of $30.00. Our telephone
home communicator, which offers more features than our standard communicator, is $35.00
per month, also with a one-time installation fee of $30.00. Thus, you are able to have
LifeLine for about a dollar a day!
