How to check your connection settings on Macintosh System 7.6

  1. Under the Apple Menu, under Control Panels, open the PPP Control Panel.
  2. Click the radio button for Registered User.
  3. Under Name type in your username.

  4. Note: Your username is the first part of your e-mail address.
    Example: username@cowboy.net
  5. Under Password type in your password.
    Placing a check in Save password will eliminate the need to input a password each time you attempt to connect.
  6. Under Number type in your local cowboy.net dialup number. Click here for a complete list of cowboy.net dialup numbers.
  7. Single-click on Options.
  8. If you're not there already, single-click on the Protocol tab.
  9. Under Use protocol, PPP should be selected. (Mac OS 8.5/8.6 only)
  10. Place a check in Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications.
  11. Place a check in Allow error correction and compression in modem.
  12. Place a check in Use TCP header compression.
  13. Do not place a check in Connect to a command-line host.
  14. Click OK. Close the Remote Access Control Panel window.

  15. Note: When exiting this screen, if you have made any changes, you will be prompted
    to save the new settings. Click the Save button.

  16. Under the Apple Menu, under Control Panels, open the Modem Control Panel.
  17. Modem: Select the appropriate manufacturer and model from the list of modems.
    If your phone line uses Touch Tone, make sure Tone is selected.
    In most cases, you'll leave "Ingnore dial tone" unchecked.
  18. Under the Apple Menu, under Control Panels, open the TCP/IP Control Panel.



  19. Under Connect Via, PPP should be selected.
  20. Under Configure, Using PPP server should be selected.
  21. The IP Address, Subnet mask, and Router address should all be set to <will be supplied by server>.
  22. Under Name server addr enter the server address closest to your area.

  23. Click Here for a list of all Server Addresses.
  24. Under Search domains type: cowboy.net. (optional)
  25. Close the Remote Access Control Panel window.
    Note: When exiting this screen, if you have made any changes, you will be prompted
    to save the new settings. Click the Save button.
    Congratulations! Your settings are correct.
