Setting up your Internet Connection (PPP Adapter)

For Windows 2000

The following instructions will help you set up a Cowboy.Net PPP adapter for Windows 2000.  If you experience problems or have questions,
please call Technical Support at (877) 372-7704.

  1. Click the START button at the bottom-left corner of the screen.  Once the Start menu is displayed, click SETTINGS and the NETWORK AND DIAL-UP CONNECTIONS option with your mouse.  Once displayed as in the picture below, double-click the MAKE NEW CONNECTION icon.  If other dialers are here from previous ISP's, delete them by right-clicking them and clicking DELETE and confirming the delete by pressing YES.

    2.  This first option in the wizard just introduces to you what this wizard’s function is.  There is nothing to do here—just click the NEXT button.

  1. On the next window, select the DIAL-UP TO THE INTERNET option clicking it and click NEXT to proceed.

  1. Another window, INTERNET CONNECTION WIZARD, will initialize.  Select the I WANT TO SET UP MY CONNECTION MANUALLY... option and click NEXT to proceed to the next step.

  1. On the next window, select I CONNECT THROUGH A PHONE LINE AND A MODEM and click NEXT to proceed to the next step.

  1. Next, enter your username as shown for the USER NAME field and enter the password in the PASSWORD field.  Enter your username with all lower-case letters.  You must place '@cowboy.net' or '@perryisp.net' (Perry, OK customers) on your username.  Click the NEXT button again to proceed to the next window.

  1. Type Cowboy.Net in the CONNECTION NAME text field.  It does not matter what is placed in this field, for this is a description.  Once this is typed, click NEXT again to proceed to the next step.

  1. Next, you will be asked to configure an email account.  Just select NO here and click NEXT.

  1.  You're finished with the PPP adapter once you click the FINISH button!  Next, we will input your username and password information.

  1. Click the START button at the bottom-left corner of your screen.  Next, click SETTINGS and CONTROL PANEL.  Once in the CONTROL PANEL, locate and double-click the INTERNET OPTIONS icon.  Type www.cowboy.net as shown in the picture below

  1. Next, locate and click the CONNECTIONS tab, which is between the CONTENT and PROGRAMS tab in most cases.  Under the DIAL-UP SETTINGS box, ensure that ALWAYS DIAL MY DEFAULT CONNECTION is selected.  Also ensure that the Cowboy.Net dialer is selected in the DIAL-UP SETTINGS box.  Once selected, click the SET DEFAULT button directly to the right of ALWAYS DIAL MY DEFAULT CONNECTION.  Once you have these options in uniform with the picture below, click the SETTINGS button, which is directly beneath the REMOVE button.

  1. Ensure that the following window looks similar to the picture displayed here.  None of the checkboxes should be checked and your username and password should be correctly entered into the USER NAME and PASSWORD fields.  Nothing should be entered in the DOMAIN field.  Once the window's information is entered correctly, click the ADVANCED button, which is located directly beneath the PROPERTIES button.

  1. On the ADVANCED DIAL-UP window, uncheck the DISCONNECT IF IDLE FOR # MINUTES and DISCONNECT WHEN CONNECTION MAY NO LONGER BE NEEDED checkboxes.  The other two options may be left alone.  Once this is done, click OK and OK to the remaining windows.  To connect to the internet, just open an internet browser of your choice and the PPP adapter you created should initialize to connect to the internet.  Wait while the modem establishes a connection to Cowboy.Net.
