Setting up your Internet Connection (PPP Adapter)

For Windows Millennium (ME)

The following instructions will help you set up a Cowboy.Net PPP adapter for Windows Millennium (ME).  If you experience problems or have questions, please call Technical Support at (877) 372-7704.

  1. Click the START button at the bottom-left corner of the screen.  Once the Start menu is displayed, click SETTINGS and the DIAL-UP NETWORKING option with your mouse.  Once displayed as in the picture below, double-click the MAKE NEW CONNECTION icon.

  1. Type Cowboy.Net in the provided text field.  It does not matter what is placed in this field, for this is a description.  Ensure that the correct model of modem is selected is the SELECT A DEVICE menu.  If only one device is present, disregard this option and click NEXT.

  1. Enter the dialup telephone number without the area code for the city you are in. The following table has the cities and numbers listed:

  1. You're finished with the PPP adapter once you click the FINISH button!  Next, we will input your username and password information.

  1. Repeat STEP 1 to go into the DIAL-UP NETWORKING window, but do not open the MAKE NEW CONNECTION program.  Once DIAL-UP NETWORKING is displayed, use the RIGHT mouse button on your mouse and right-click (once) the new Cowboy.Net icon.  Once the right-click menu is displayed, revert back too the left mouse button and click the PROPERTIES option.

  1. When the Cowboy.Net Properties window is open, click on the SECURITY tab, which is between the NETWORKING and SCRIPTING tabs.  Once here, enter your username and password as shown in the picture below.  You must place '@cowboy.net' or '@perryisp.net.1dial.com' (Perry, OK customers) on your username.  Leave all checkboxes unchecked.  Once done, click on the DIALING tab.

  1. Once the DIALING tab is in view, ensure that THIS IS THE DEFAULT INTERNET CONNECTION is selected and that the radio button menu has ALWAYS DIAL MY DEFAULT CONNECTION selected.  Also ensure that ENABLE IDLE DISCONNECT and DISCONNECT WHEN CONNECTION MAY NOT BE NEEDED are unchecked.  Once the window is uniform with the picture below, click OK.  To connect to the internet, just open an internet browser of your choice and the PPP adapter you created should initialize to connect to the internet.  Wait while the modem establishes a connection to Cowboy.Net.
