Setting up your Internet Connection (PPP Adapter)

For Windows XP Home and Professional

The following instructions will help you set up a Cowboy.Net PPP adapter for Windows XP Home and Professional.  If you experience problems or have questions, please call Technical Support at (877) 372-7704.

1.       Click the START button at the bottom-left corner of the screen.  Once the Start menu is displayed as shown in the picture below, open the CONTROL PANEL by clicking on CONTROL PANEL icon with your mouse.


 

2.       Once the CONTROL PANEL is displayed, locate and open the NETWORK AND INTERNET CONNECTIONS option by clicking on it.

 

 

3.       Select the SET UP OR CHANGE YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION option by clicking it.  This opens the INTERNET CONNECTION WIZARD.

 

 

4.       This first option in the wizard just introduces to you what this wizard’s function is.  There is nothing to do here—just click the NEXT button.

 

 

5.       On the next window, the CONNECT TO THE INTERNET option should be selected.  If not, select it by clicking it and click NEXT to proceed.

 

 

6.       Next, select SET UP MY CONNECTION MANUALLY the same way you did in step 5.  To proceed to the next step, click the NEXT button again.

 

 

7.       Select CONNECT USING A DIAL-UP MODEM and click NEXT.  If this option is unavailable or ‘greyed out’, your modem is not installed properly.

 

 

8.       Next, type Cowboy.Net in the text field.  It does not matter what is placed in this field, for this is a description.  Once this is typed, click NEXT.

 

 

9.       Enter the dialup telephone number without the area code for the city you are in.  The following table has the cities and numbers listed:

10.   Next, enter your username as shown for the USER NAME field and enter the password in the PASSWORD and CONFIRM PASSWORD fields.  Enter your username as shown in the picture below.  You must place '@cowboy.net' or '@perryisp.net.1dial.com' (Perry, OK customers) on your username.  Check or uncheck the following checkboxes as noted in the picture below and click the NEXT button again.

 

 

11.   Almost finished!  A check mark should be present next to the ADD A SHORTCUT TO THIS CONNECTION TO MY DESKTOP option.  If not, click the checkbox next to this option and click the FINISH button.  Once you do this, open an internet browser of your choice and the PPP adapter you created should initialize to connect to the internet.  Wait while the modem establishes a connection to Cowboy.Net.
