The Hawaiian Islands are truly islands of exceptional beauty which were produced by volcanic activity which continues even today. The island land masses which we enjoy are the tips of a great range of volcanic mountains that stretch some 2000 miles across the floor of the Pacific Ocean. Althouth the Hawaiian Islands are made up of some 250 islands, only the four major islands come to mind when most people think about Hawaii. It's those four islands that this page deals with.

Ohau

Honolulu, the capital of the State of Hawaii and, for most, the point of entry to Hawaii, is located on Ohau. No doubt Waakiki with its beautiful beaches and world-class hotels and restaurants is Ohau's major attraction but there's much more to see. My wife and I first visited Hawaii in 1964 when we stopped over on the return flight from Japan where we had attended the Tokyo Olympics. We stayed at the Outrigger Reef Hotel on Waakiki and had a great time, but the visit was way too short.

Kauai

The island of Kauai is known as the garden island. It's the westernmost of the four major islands and is one of the wettest places on earth which accounts, in part, for its lush foilage. We spent a week in Princeville on Kauai's north coast, through a timeshare exchange. Kauai is a bit more laid back than the other islands but the there's a lot of beautiful scenery and we had a great time.

Maui

Maui, nicknamed the valley isle, is Hawaii's second largest island. We spent a week on Maui in Nov 1999. Our accommodations were again through a timeshare exchange to Kihei. We shared our unit with two sons and had a great time exploring Maui together. As with the other islands, there's much to see and do and we did our best to see all that we could. Maui may be our favorite of the three islands we've visited to date, but not by much as all are great.

Hawaii (The Big Island)

We've not been to the big island yet but have reservations in March 2006 through another timeshare exchange. Check back for an update at that time.
