International Friendship Garden

...................... ........................

The citizens of Stillwater were the recipients of a superb gift from the Landscape Gardeners Cooperative of our sister city of Kameoka, Japan. A delegation of gardeners came to Stillwater in September, 1998 and constructed the International Friendship Garden shown above, using 20 tons of materials shipped from Japan, as a gift for the people of Stillwater. Even the plants which were purchased locally were supplied by the gardeners cooperative.

The garden is a kare-sansui (dry landscape) style, viewing garden. The stone lantern in the foreground of the left-hand photo is a tachi-gata standing about 1.5 meters high. The lantern in the background on the far left of the same photo is a yukimi-gata, or snowing-viewing lantern.
